The Birkenhead Park School Welcomes International Visitors

TODAY, The Birkenhead Park School was delighted to welcome 20 students and 3 members of staff from the KonTiki School in Hillerød, Denmark.

The visit marked the 12th year of the ongoing partnership between the 2 schools - a valued tradition that continues to strengthen cultural understanding and collaboration.

The KonTiki students are currently learning about different cultures, with a particular focus on life and education in England, including the Liverpool and Birkenhead area.

Throughout the day, the visiting students were fully immersed in school life at BPS. In the morning, they spent time getting to know their hosts through informal conversation, before experiencing a typical school day. Paired with BPS students, they attended a range of lessons including Science, English, Drama, Music, History, and more.

They also enjoyed a Food Technology session, where they prepared chickpea curry, learning about ingredients and cooking methods.

During break and lunchtime, there was a real sense of curiosity and enthusiasm among our students, who were keen to learn more about their Danish guests. Conversations ranged from school and hobbies to interesting cultural differences, helping to build connections across the 2 schools.

At the end of the day, the KonTiki students also interviewed their hosts about life in England, gaining valuable insight into school life and daily routines.

While the visit provided the Danish students with an opportunity to experience life and education in the UK, it also gave our own young people the chance to learn more about culture, education, and everyday life in Denmark.

Our students were excellent hosts throughout the experience, demonstrating maturity, kindness, and a very warm welcome to our international visitors.

Mrs Houghton, Head of Performing Arts and organiser of the visit said:- “It’s always a pleasure to welcome KonTiki to our school. Visits like this provide a fantastic opportunity for our young people to learn from one another and gain a deeper understanding of life beyond their own community. It has been wonderful to see friendships develop, too.”

It was a fantastic day that was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

All of us at The Birkenhead Park School look forward to continuing this partnership in the future and, next year, we hope to send a group of our students to Denmark to further develop this exciting international collaboration and learn more about life at KonTiki.
