SEFTON´S 1st 9,000 outdoor caddies arrived in Bootle this week, as part of preparations for food waste collections later this year.

Before the new weekly food waste collections start in the autumn, every home in Sefton will receive 1 of these outdoor caddies as well as an indoor caddy with a supply of liners.

Residents will be asked to put all raw and cooked food waste into the small kitchen caddy, using the liners provided. When full the bags can be transferred to the secure, lockable outdoor collection for weekly collection.

Fruit and vegetables, bread, Meat, fish bones, plate scrapings and leftovers can all go in the food waste caddy, as well as tea bags and coffee grounds. As long as any packaging is removed 1st.

The collected food waste will be taken to an anaerobic digestion facility where it is turned into renewable biogas and a nutrient‑rich fertiliser for farming. This helps reduce harmful greenhouse gases.

Cllr Peter Harvey, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleansing and Street Scene, was on hand this week to see the 1st caddies arrive. He said:- “It’s exciting to see the 1st delivery of food caddies arriving here in Bootle. Food waste collections will begin later this year, and these caddies will help residents play a big part in reducing waste, cutting carbon emissions and supporting a greener Sefton.”
