Council to begin improvement works on Queen’s Drive

HIGHWAY improvement works will take place on Queen’s Drive from March 2026 as part of Liverpool City Council’s commitment to improving key travel routes through the City.

In a Cabinet meeting last December, the Council agreed to use funding provided by the Liverpool City Region’s Key Route Network Levelling Up Programme to progress to the construction of highway improvements on Queen’s Drive.

The works, which will be carried out by Aureos Highways, will include resurfacing of the road, as well as improvements to the highway’s drainage and pavements between Dovedale Road and Mossley Hill Drive.

Work will begin on:- Monday, 23 March 2026, and are due to take approximately 18 weeks to complete.

Surveys and investigations will take place across the 1st few weeks of the works and will see lane closures and temporary traffic lights on the road. People travelling along Queen’s Drive should allow additional time for their journeys.

The upgrade works that will follow will require temporary road closures in 1 direction, with diversion routes put in place.

Once complete, the road will require less regular maintenance, reducing the amount of reactive roadworks in the area.

Residents and businesses who may be affected by the works will be invited to attend a drop-in session closer to the time. Staff will be on hand during this to share more about the programme of works and answer any questions people may have.

Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said:- “Over time, well-used roads through the City can become worn down, meaning they need regular repair works. To prevent this from being the case, we are carrying out a number of upgrades on Queen’s Drive, including resurfacing and drainage works. By tackling these now, we will create a safer environment for road users, while also improving traffic flow. The works form part of a much bigger commitment by the Council to improve the City’s key routes.”
