THE Lancashire APPG, last registered in March 2022, has been reestablished and met on the:- 21 January 2026. At the forefront of the agenda is the upcoming devolution and reorganisation of local government, which MPs see as an opportunity to work collectively and help realise plans for local regeneration.

Recent announcements, such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, and strategies such as the Lancashire Growth Plan, Get Lancashire Working Plan and the Lancashire Local Transport Plan, outline the growth potential of the Region.  With a population of 1.57 million and a Gross Value Added (GVA) of £40 billion it stands as 1 of the largest and dynamic economies in the North.

The APPG will seek to complement existing strategy and regional work through a wider Parliamentary campaign, acting as a link between MPs, Peers, local authorities, businesses, and wider partners across Lancashire.

Its 6 strategic objectives are as follows:-
  • Explore the long-term success of existing committed investments in Lancashire.

  • Promote new investment in Lancashire.

  • Tell the story of Lancashire in Parliament and to the world.

  • Support an effective transition under Local Government Reorganisation.

  • Explore the challenges and opportunities of a Mayoral Strategic Authority for Lancashire.

  • Where relevant, and where there is capacity, promote wider policy changes that benefit the whole of Lancashire, for example:- Community Cohesion, Local Government Funding, and SEND provision.
MP for Southport and the Northern Parishes, Patrick Hurley said:- "I'm delighted to have joined this APPG, at such an exciting time of potential growth for the Lancashire region. I will be representing the Northern Parishes of Southport, ensuring that in any future vision for regeneration, my constituents are not left to 1 side, but are g;ven the attention and prominence they deserve. The extensive plans for growth and redevelopment demonstrate the ambition behind the newly formed Lancashire Combined Authority, and throughout the relaunch of this APPG, we hope to empower this regional transformation with backing from Parliament."
