Appeal for information following fatal collision in Formby
ON Sunday, 27 August 2023, just after 2:10 pm, a dark blue colored Mercedes A class was involved in a collision at the entrance to the National Trust Woodland, at the end of Victoria Road, Formby. We are told that the vehicle struck trees and overgrowth just beyond the entrance hut at the site. We are also informed that the attending emergency services managed to remove the driver of the Mercedes, a 57-year-old male, from the vehicle, and he was taken to Southport Hospital. Sadly we are informed that the driver was pronounced deceased a short time later. According to Merseyside Police, there were no other vehicles involved or people injured in this collision.
Currently, Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has CCTV or dash camera footage that may have captured this 2022 model Mercedes A-class in the lead-up to this incident. Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said::- "Our thoughts are with this man’s family at this devastating time. I would like to say, ‘thank you’ to the people who helped at the scene of this collision and have assisted with this investigation so far. If anyone recalls a vehicle matching this description in the area at the time, that raised any concerns, please contact our officers. Similarly, any residents or people walking along Victoria Road who may have seen this vehicle or if there are any properties on the route that have CCTV that would have captured the build-up to this incident, I would appreciate you getting in touch. Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear, could assist us in providing answers for the gentleman’s family.” Our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit is contactable on:- 01517775747, or by emailing:- SCIU@Merseyside.Police.UK, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference:- 23000808747.
