Speke Police Station set for state-of-the-art upgrade
MERSYSIDE Police's Speke Police Station is set to undergo a transformative refurbishment as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner's Estate Strategy, aimed at revolutionising its facilities and services for the local community.
With works due to start this month, it is expected that the 60 year old building; which is no longer fit for purpose; will transform into a state-of-the-art facility, ensuring it is in the best possible position to serve its communities for many years to come. The Station, which 1st opened for business in 1958, is situated near local shops and amenities, making it a prominent fixture within the community. Renovation works will include:- modernising infrastructure, upgrading technology and improving energy efficiency to reduce running costs and ensure Officers and staff have everything they need to fight crime now and into the future. It is expected the renovated Station will be ready to re-open for business in the early months of 2026, and will primarily house the:- 'Local Policing Community and Emergency Incident Response' along with the:- 'Resolution Teams.' This refurbishment is part of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s 12 year Estate Strategy focused on modernising and updating Merseyside Police’s Stations and buildings to ensure Officers and staff are in the right places and best equipped to serve communities across the Region. Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell said: “The refurbishment of Speke Police Station reinforces our commitment to putting local communities at the heart of everything we do, transforming it into a facility that’s fit for policing in the modern world. This Station has faithfully served Merseyside Police for more than 60 years, but sadly it has become out dated and very costly to run. This major refurbishment will facilitate modern ways of working, effective partnerships, efficiency improvements and increased flexibility, with open plan environments allowing smarter ways of working, and will help to ensure Speke Police Station is fit and future-proofed to serve our Officers and staff for many years to come. Our Police service deserves modern facilities and equipment which will make them as effective and efficient as possible - putting them at the heart of the community, with a modern building that is affordable and sustainable. I can’t wait to visit the Station once it is ready to open its doors for business again.” The planning application was submitted on:- 1 October 2024, and planning permission was granted on:- 19 December 2024. Consultation with community engagement has been integral to the planning stage of this project. COMMENTS (0)
