MERSEYRAIL today signed the White Ribbon Day Promise, as part of the launch of the ‘16 Days of Action’ campaign, working in partnership with organisations across the region to raise awareness and tackle violence against women and girls.

In collaboration with Wirral Domestic Abuse Alliance, Tomorrow’s Women, the NHS, Travelsafe, and other partners, Merseyrail is driving initiatives to promote safety and create awareness among customers across its network. This includes installing living floral ribbons at key stations, posters on digital screens and banners across the Northern Line to encourage individuals to take the White Ribbon Promise.

The launch was marked by the signing ceremony of the Promise today, which took place at Aintree station. Representatives from local women’s issues charity Blackburne House and domestic violence nursery Centre 56 were in attendance. Both organisations are part of Merseyrail’s Charity of the Year programme, which supports local good causes within the communities the operator serves.

The Promise, signed by Managing Director Neil Grabham, commits Merseyrail to never using, excusing or remaining silent about men’s violence against women. The ’16 Days of Action campaign’ includes a broad range of events including outreach sessions at Conway Park station on:- 6 December 2024 and Lime Street Low Level station on:- 9 December 2024, together with a commitment to signpost support services to customers that might be affected.

Neil Grabham, Managing Director at Merseyrail, said:- “Merseyrail is committed to supporting the safety and well-being of everyone who uses our network. Through partnerships and initiatives such as those supporting White Ribbon Day, we aim to make a meaningful contribution towards tackling violence against women and creating safer spaces across the region. We stand united with our partners and communities in saying: violence against women is never okay.”

Cllr Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, said:- “The Combined Authority and our Travelsafe team are pleased to stand alongside Merseyrail in supporting the White Ribbon Day Promise and raising awareness to tackle this issue. The message is loud and clear – violence against women is not, and never will be, acceptable.”
