Maghull Station competes to win the ‘World Cup of Stations’ 2024
MAGHULL Station needs your support as it battles it out to win the World Cup of Stations 2024 and be crowned the UK’s best railway station.
This year’s competition, hosted by Rail Delivery group, takes place between 14 to 18 October 2024 where 48 stations will be whittled down to 1 and the winner crowned on:- 21 October 2024. In 2024, the competition is focused on celebrating the variety of businesses found in train stations, from delis to doughnut shops, hotels to health spas, barbers to bakers, florists to farm shops and the benefits they bring to people across the UK and local economies. Maghull has been chosen to take part in the contest due to its flourishing café ‘The Coffee Carriage’. Set up by 2 local entrepreneurs in 2023, the café provides a range of delicious hot drinks, artisan bakes and a fantastic atmosphere which the local community have taken to their hearts, quickly transforming the station into a vital meeting place and hub. From providing much needed refreshment, to the thriving local station volunteers group, to hosting community events, the Coffee Carriage perfectly reflects the power of partnership between the railway and small businesses. Suzanne Grant, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Merseyrail said:- “For the last 20 years, Merseyrail has been proudly at the heart of the communities we serve, providing vital links to education, employment and leisure. Over the years we have invested heavily in creating spaces for local businesses to establish themselves and enhance the customer experience within our stations. Our team here at Maghull are very much part of the community and this is reflected in the exceptional level of customer service we provide. The Coffee Carriage at Maghull station is a great example of this, not only delivering a high-quality food and drink offer for our customers, but also engaging with the local community, providing them with a place to meet and enhancing the station as a result”. Rory McLellan, Co-owner of Coffee Carriage said:- “We are blown away with the support we have had from the local community since we opened at Maghull. To find out that this has led to the station being nominated for the World Cup of Stations, with a chance to be named the best station in the UK, is amazing. I hope that everyone that can, backs the fantastic station team and us here at Coffee Carriage and votes for Maghull over the three days”. If the station wins the initial vote on the 16 October 2024, it will progress to the semi-finals on the 17 October 2024 and ultimately if it wins that vote it will reach the national final on the 18 October 2024. Votes cast in each round do not carry forward to the next, meaning that Maghull will need your votes on all 3 days. Last year over 72,000 votes were cast across 12 heats which was won by Wemyss Bay in Scotland. Merseyrail and the team at the Coffee Carriage are asking for your support to ensure the station wins the top prize.
