By Newsroom

THE alleyways leading off Chapel Lane in Formby, are dull, dark, and according to Imagine Formby are often:- "dangerous". Imagine Formby and the Formby Heritage Center are now transforming them into bright, green, and artistic spaces with living walls, and street art, plus they will also be adding creative lighting.

We are told that each alleyway will be designed by the Imagine Formby Arts, Culture and Heritage Group, in collaboration with local Schools and the Formby Civic Society, to transform them via:- planting living walls, pots, troughs, and through the use of hanging displays; along with, street art that will depict the local history and other local references. The group also hopes to use conservation techniques to highlight iconic features; along with the use of adding new eco friendly lighting installations that improve safety and the aesthetics of the alleyways after dark.  Installing entrance features will be by local professional businesses and local volunteers.

This is what the group is planning to deliver this summer:-

  • 2 Alleyways with living wall features, such as:- pots and planters, and improved lighting.

  • 2 Alleyways featuring original wall artworks.

  • 4 Alleyways with a combination of feature lighting.

  • 2 Alleyways with historic features conserved and highlighted

  • Imagine Formby Arts, Culture and Heritage Group will bring a team together from our local community including volunteers community groups.

  • Imagine Formby Arts, Culture and Heritage Group will also work with Statutory and voluntary organisations in the area.

Imagine Formby Arts, Culture and Heritage Group say that:- "This project will benefit the local community by providing.  Once completed it will lead to safer, more appealing passageways. Interest in local historical connections and our environmentally friendly spaces should prove to be an inspiration and joy for locals and visitors to the Village. We hope that these exciting new art features will lead to an increase in footfall, helping local businesses and improving the environment for the local community."

What are your thoughts on the:- 'The 8 Alleyways Project' which is the 1st of several projects that aim to preserve Formby Village Centre's local businesses and improve the environment for residents and visitors alike? Please put your thoughts below...
