Star Names Announced for Liverpool the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2025
IT'S less than 24 hours to the start of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2025... Are you going this year? The event has lots of action with names like:- Marcus Willis and Martin Kližan on the lineup. With a mix of international stars and local contenders, this year's Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is shaping into 1 of our most exciting editions yet.
Marcus Willis - The Entertainer, is a Wimbledon cult hero and long time Liverpool favourite. Marcus Willis returns to the tournament in exceptional form. Fresh from claiming his seventh ATP Challenger title of the year, the Brit is looking to sharpen his grass court game ahead of Wimbledon. Marcus said:- "I love coming to Liverpool for the tennis. It’s a fantastic tournament, and I can’t wait to get some great grass court matches under my belt prior to playing Wimbledon." If you are unaware, Marcus Willis shot to international fame in 2016 after a dream run at SW19, which ended with a now-iconic Centre Court clash against Roger Federer. Known for his charisma and shot-making flair, Marcus will be a hit with the crowds again. Joining him this year is Martin Kližan, the Slovakian powerhouse and former ATP World No. 24, who's beaten legends like Nadal, Djokovic, Monfils and Wawrinka during his career. A 2006 French Open junior champion in both singles and doubles, Martin has notched up 6 ATP singles titles and built a reputation as one of the game's most tenacious competitors. After stepping away from tennis in 2021 due to injury and burnout, he returned in late 2023 with a renewed sense of purpose, training intensively at the IMG Academy in Florida and fighting his way back up the rankings with 4 tournament wins in 2024. Tournament Director Anders Borg said:- "We can't wait to see this fighter play in Liverpool. He loves his sport and is a great ambassador for tennis." These are 2 exceptional pros who add serious star power to this year's line up, making The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2025 an unmissable event. But also heading to the court will be Romanian tennis star Patricia Maria Tig. A professional since 2015, Patricia has claimed 23 singles and 10 doubles titles across the WTA and ITF tours. Her Grand Slam breakthrough came at Roland Garros 2020, where she reached the third round and climbed to a career-high WTA ranking of 56 the same year. After taking time out in 2018 to become a mother and in 2022 due to injury, Patricia has shown incredible determination to return to the top of the game. Her recent performances have earned her Grand Slam qualifying spots, including at Wimbledon 2025, and we're thrilled that Liverpool will play a part in her journey back to the top. Tournament Director Anders Borg says:- "We're so pleased Patricia has chosen Liverpool as part of her Wimbledon preparations. It's never easy combining motherhood with the demands of the WTA circuit, but we'll ensure she has the perfect build up on our beautiful Centre Court." Patricia will also be joined by Alonso Abril. Alsonso is a Spanish player, fresh from the US College Circuit, and is now coached by Samuel Porreh Jalloh. She is ready to make her mark on the pro scene. She'll face hometown favourite Abi Redman in what promises to be a thrilling match up between rising talents. The event takes place from:- Thursday, 19 June to Saturday, 21 June 2025. Tickets can be obtained at the gates, at:- Liverpool Cricket Club, Aigburth Road, Aigburth, Liverpool, L193QF. The play starts at:- 1 pm on each day and ends around:- 6 pm to 7 pm on all 3 days.
