DRIVING School Academy is setting a new standard in driving instructor training across the North West, with branches in Wirral, Liverpool, Chester and Preston, combining industry expertise with forward-thinking technology to deliver exceptional results. Thanks to the roll-out of their groundbreaking new e-learning portal, there’s never been a better time to train as a driving instructor.

With some of the highest pass rates in the Region, the school is not only helping learners succeed behind the wheel — it is also opening new doors for aspiring driving instructors through a groundbreaking approach to training that saves time and money. Due to this innovative new development, new opportunities for driving instructor training have arisen.

Driving School Academy’s revolutionary new online learning portal helps learner drivers learn online as well as in person and is also designed to streamline the journey to becoming a qualified driving instructor. Traditionally, entering the profession can be both time-consuming and costly, with many trainees facing setbacks due to inadequate preparation. Driving School Academy has tackled this challenge head-on by creating a system that allows trainees to learn efficiently, reducing the risk of retests and unnecessary expense.

What sets this programme apart is its flexibility and structure. Trainee instructors can study online at their own pace while continuing hands-on training in real-world settings. The portal offers clear, step-by-step lesson plans that guide users through every stage of teaching a learner driver — from the very first lesson to more advanced skills. Crucially, it doesn’t just explain what to teach, but also how and why, giving trainees a deeper understanding of effective instruction.

Driving School Academy Founder Carol Hetherington, who is celebrating 20 years in the industry, said:- “I created this concept whilst going through a cancer battle 5 years ago and we’ve been developing and refining it ever since. We’re really excited about it and the feedback from new instructors has been fantastic.”

She continued:- “A standout feature of the platform is its use of real driving lesson footage. By observing actual lessons on training routes, trainees gain a practical insight into what is expected of them, bridging the gap between theory and practice. This proven method has already been adopted successfully across the North West and is helping to shape a more confident, capable generation of driving instructors.”

Beyond technical knowledge, the course also focuses on the human side of teaching. Trainees learn how to remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly with learners, and avoid common mistakes — particularly those that can lead to failure in the crucial Part 3 instructional ability test. This well-rounded approach ensures that instructors are not simply memorising techniques but are genuinely developing the skills needed to train safer, more responsible drivers.

The programme’s success is reflected in its results. Trainee instructors achieve pass rates of 75–80%, with some pupils even passing their driving tests with zero minor faults during training. The course has been developed by an ORDIT-registered instructor with 20 years of experience, ensuring full alignment with official standards and best practices.

Carol summarised:- “Our new e-learning portal really is a game changer for the industry — both for learner drivers and for those training to become instructors. It allows trainees to build confidence gradually, revisit materials whenever needed, and progress either independently or alongside an ADI sponsor. This flexibility makes the pathway into the profession more accessible, without compromising on quality or standards.”

Driving School Academy operates in Wirral, Liverpool, Chester and Preston — boasting some of the best pass rates in the country both for learner drivers and new instructors. As the demand for skilled driving instructors continues to grow, Driving School Academy is leading the way — proving that with the right training, support and innovation, becoming a driving instructor can be both achievable and rewarding.
