A mental health nurse from Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title, recognising her outstanding contribution to community healthcare and leadership in mental health services.

Lucy Campbell, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner working across the CHAW Primary Care Network in East Cheshire, recently received the Queen’s Nurse designation -  a national title awarded by the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing to nurses who demonstrate high standards of patient care, clinical excellence and a strong commitment to improving community health.

The Queen’s Nurse title is a respected professional honour, recognising nurses who deliver compassionate, person-centred care while leading innovation and positive change within community services. Award holders become part of a national network focused on improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities, and shaping the future of community nursing.

Over the past 4 years, Lucy has played a key role in shaping primary care mental health services supporting approximately 50,000 residents across East Cheshire. She has led the development of a mental health offer designed to bridge gaps between service levels, helping ensure people receive the right care at the right time while reducing unnecessary referrals into secondary services.

She has also supported the creation of a multidisciplinary mental health and wellbeing team, working alongside care coordinators, social prescribers and fellow mental health practitioners to deliver more holistic support within GP practices.

Lucy’s work has gained wider recognition nationally, including presenting at the Primary Care Best Practice event and being featured in the Independent Nurse Journal.

Lucy said:- “Being recognised as a Queen’s Nurse is a real honour and reflects the incredible work happening across community mental health services. I qualified as a mental health nurse in 1997 because I wanted to help people, reduce stigma and make a positive difference in communities. Feedback from patients continues to remind me why this work matters — it is always a privilege.”
