THE Police and Crime Commissioner’s office and Merseyside Police have become members of the Liverpool City Region Fair Employment Charter.

The charter aims to celebrate good employers and drive-up standards for fairer employment practices to make the Liverpool region the fairest place in the country to work.

Both the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Merseyside Police have secured the 1st level of accreditation, known as ‘aspiring’ which must be secured 1st before applying for the secondary ‘accredited’ status.

To become a member of the Charter, both organisations were assessed against 4 pillars:- healthy, fair, inclusive, and just.

The pillars commit to safe workplaces recognising the importance of both mental and physical health, fairer pay and inclusivity, supporting staff to grow and develop in their careers whilst offering opportunities for young people.

Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell said:- “We’re sending the message that we are committed to the principle of fair employment and want to set an example for other organisations to build a healthy, fair inclusive and just region for all. I’m proud to receive this accreditation which demonstrates the good work we’re doing to ensure my office and Merseyside Police are great employers and that the people who come to work for us every day, doing vital work in our communities, are extremely important to us. The principles at the heart of this charter mark mirror the core principes underpinning my Police and Crime Plan and the goals set out in Merseyside Police’s strategy. I hope that more organisations recognise this and follow our example to becoming members of the Charter, so that we can make Liverpool and the wider region the best place to work for everyone.”

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said:- “Our officers and staff perform outstanding roles in often incredibly challenging circumstances. It is only right that as an employer, Merseyside Police affords them a great workplace that is fair and inclusive, facilitates development and recognises that their physical and mental health is paramount. It is vital that people who work for Merseyside Police feel supported to do their work protecting the communities of Merseyside and I hope our membership of the Fair employment Charter demonstrates very clearly our commitment to ensuring that.”
