MERSEYSIDE Police have issued an appeal following a serious collision in Southport, Merseyside, on:- Monday, 4 December 2024.
We are told that the emergency services were called to Promenade, Southport, just after 8.50pm, to a report that a blue Volkswagen Bora Sport car had been involved in a collision with a man in an electric wheelchair. An investigation into the collision was then launched, with enquires carried out near the scene and CCTV opportunities explored.
Merseyside Police have said that:- "The wheelchair user, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries and has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical. The Volkswagen, which was driven away from the scene, was later located by Police, on Southport Road, and the driver and a passenger were detained. A male aged 34, from Walton, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving, drug driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. Also, a 38 year old woman, from Bootle, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis)."
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw a blue Volkswagen car driving in the area at the time, is asked to contact police.
