A powerful memorial made up of hundreds of handcrafted quilt panels commemorating people lost to suicide will be on display in Southport from:- Thursday, 20 August to Sunday, 23 August 2026, offering local people an opportunity to remember loved ones, challenge stigma and encourage life-saving conversations.
The Speak Their Name Memorial Quilt Tour will be exhibited at Southport Flower show as part of a nationwide tour taking the moving display to communities across the UK ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day.
Each quilt panel has been lovingly created by families and friends in memory of someone they have lost to suicide. Together, the quilts form a moving tribute to lives remembered and a powerful reminder that behind every suicide statistic is a person who was deeply loved and is profoundly missed.
Visitors are invited to spend time with the memorial, read the stories behind the quilts and reflect on the importance of compassion, connection and suicide prevention. Speak Their Name hopes the tour will inspire more open conversations about suicide and help people feel able to seek support for themselves or someone they care about.
Ashley Redsell, Director of Speak Their Name, commented:- “We hope local people will come and spend time with the memorial. Every quilt represents someone deeply loved and missed. Bringing the quilt to Southport is an opportunity for our community to remember those we’ve lost while helping create conversations that may encourage someone to reach out for support.”
The memorial is part of a 6-week UK tour organised by Speak Their Name, visiting seven locations concluding in London on World Suicide Prevention Day on:- Thursday, 10 September 2026.
The tour comes as suicide remains 1 of the UK’s leading causes of death among younger adults, with thousands of families affected every year. While every suicide is unique, Speak Their Name believes that breaking the stigma and encouraging honest conversations around mental health are essential steps towards prevention.
Alongside the memorial display, visitors will have opportunities to learn more about suicide prevention, access information about support services and meet volunteers connected with the charity.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the memorial, share their reflections and help continue the conversation around suicide prevention.
