PRENTON Rugby Club is teaming up with Culture Liverpool for a very special Eurovision gardening project and YOU can get involved! On Wednesday, 10 May 2023, the club is bringing people together to plant flowers, trees and vegetables in its community garden for the ground-breaking project.

The Eurovision Communities and Education Programme has selected Prenton Rugby Club to be the host of this wonderful initiative; whereby people can honour the earth and plant a seed as a sign of global solidarity. From:- 10am on the day, people can plant a flower, tree or vegetables; with free transport to the club available.

Prenton Rugby Club is leading the way as a rugby club; having become an official charity and community hub with groups and organisations based there and a beautiful community garden. A response to the closure of local community centres, libraries, playing fields and pubs, the club aims to become a place at the heart of its community and beyond; with big plans in the pipeline.

Club Spokesperson Tony Norbury said:- “Being selected by Culture Liverpool to host this fantastic Eurovision initiative is a great honour and epitomises what we are all about at Prenton Rugby Club. Our aim is to be more than just a rugby club and bring people together, so the gardening project is a great way to demonstrate this. We invite anyone to the club on:- 10 May 2023, who wishes to make a difference and be part of something special. By planting the seeds you are not only creating a legacy in our community garden that will be enjoyed by many, you are planting a seed of hope, love, unity and world peace for Eurovision.”

Prenton Rugby Club has already pledged its allegiance to world peace and love by engaging with Ukrainian refugees and getting them involved with the club, as featured by England Rugby. The aim of the club, and indeed the Eurovision gardening project, is to bring people together and make our communities stronger.

Tony said:- “For this project, community groups that represent all the different countries competing in the Eurovision Song Contest are invited to plant a tree, flower or vegetable that is important to their country’s culture. They will act as a symbol for each country that the earth can sing too if we allow it to flourish.”

The Culture Liverpool led project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will also feature other innovative events throughout the Region; such as a hip hop block party and hairdressing and nail art classes.

Claire McColgan CBE, Director of Culture Liverpool said:- “We were inundated with so many amazing ideas, making it really difficult for us to decide which projects to take forward. We never fail to be impressed by the enthusiasm and creativity of community groups and grassroots organisations in Liverpool City Region and once again they have outdone themselves. I think the successful projects reflect a good cross-section of the Region. The chosen projects highlight different cultures, religious beliefs, food and languages. There truly is something for everyone. We’re incredibly excited to see all of these amazing ideas come to life and make Eurovision 2023 a party that won’t be forgotten.”

Prenton Rugby Club is hosting a very special Eurovision gardening project on:- Wednesday, 10 May 2023, from:- 10am, where people are invited to attend and plant flowers, plants and vegetables for world peace in their community garden.
