Busy City road and key junction to benefit from significant highways upgrade
Princess Drive in West Derby will soon benefit from LCC’s Highways Investment Program. A busy thoroughfare in Liverpool that serves a Health Centre, a Nursery, and a number of private businesses, as well as hundreds of homes, will be getting new upgrades and surface repairs.
Princess Drive, in West Derby, will benefit from Liverpool City Council's Highways Investment Programme, as significant new road upgrades from:- the junction of Saxby Road, to the junction of:- Deysbrook Lane are set to start. The works, to be carried out by Huyton Asphalt, are scheduled to commence on:- Tuesday, 6 May 2025, and are expected to last for a period of approximately 20 weeks, with work taking place:- Monday to Friday between the hours of:- 7:30 am and 4 pm. The exact timing of works may change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as adverse weather conditions. The comprehensive maintenance program will include:-
Cllr Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said:- “These highway works are crucial in ensuring that our roads are kept to the highest standards expected by residents and businesses. I know that it can sometimes be frustrating and time consuming when this kind of work increases travelling time. That’s why we are grateful for people’s patience while this work is going on. The final result, which will be a much improved highway for all users, including pedestrians, car drivers, and businesses will be well worth it and give the City decades of benefits. The Highways Investment Programme is making a real difference to the quality of roads in the City, and this is yet another location where residents can experience the benefits.” To ensure the safety of both the workforce and the public during these essential works, some restrictions on footways and the carriageway will be necessary throughout the duration of the project. Liverpool City Council and Huyton Asphalt are committed to minimising disruption wherever possible and appreciate the public's understanding during this period.
Saxby Road marks the boundary Liverpool City Council shares with Knowsley Council, and the project will only affect the Liverpool side of Saxby Road. These works are a £1.3m scheme to treat the rigid (concrete) and flexible (tarmac) sections using a Milepave solution product from Miles Macadam, which is being funded via a LiveLabs2 contribution, and which will result in significant carbon savings. The Highways Investment Programme has already delivered significant improvements across the city. To date, the initiative has seen the resurfacing of over 100,000 square meters of roads, creating smoother and safer journeys for drivers. In addition, more than 100 new tactile crossings have been installed, enhancing accessibility for pedestrians with visual impairments. The project has also helped save 68 tonnes of CO₂ emissions through the use of innovative, decarbonizing construction methods. As part of Huyton Asphalt's commitment to their #HAMeansMore initiative, the company will also be engaging with the local community by visiting Primary Schools in the area to deliver Road Safety Assemblies in the coming months. These assemblies, delivered in partnership with The Bobby Colleran Trust, aim to empower children and families with the knowledge and confidence to travel safely to School, particularly in areas where roadworks are taking place.
