Runcorn and Helsby By-Election

A By-Election for the United Kingdom parliamentary constituency of Runcorn and Helsby is due to take place on 1 May 2025.

The seat is currently vacant, and was last held by Mike Amesbury (Independent) between:- 4 July 2024 to 17 March 2025. 2024 General Election.

This By-Election will be Labour's 1st big electoral test of the broader political mood that could set the tone since regaining parliamentary control.

With just 1 seat up for grabs and 15 candidates, anything could happen...

The candidates are as follows:-

    Catherine Blaiklock -English Democrats.
    
    Dan Clarke - The Liberal Party.
    
    Chris Copeman - Green Party.
    
    Paul Michael Duffy - Liberal Democrats.
    
    Peter Ford - Workers Party of Britain.
    
    Howling Laud Hope - The Official Monster Raving Loony Party.
    
    Sean Houlston - Conservative and Unionist Party.
    
    Jason Philip Hughes - Volt United Kingdom
    
    Alan McKie - Independent.
    
    Graham Harry Moore - English Constitution Party.
    
    Paul Andrew Murphy - Social Democratic Party.
    
    Sarah Joanne Pochin - Reform UK.
    
    Karen Louise Shore - Labour Party.
    
    John Stevens - Rejoin EU.
    
    Michael Williams - Independent.

Background:- In February 2025, the former MP, 55 year old Mike Amesbury,  was sentenced for punching a constituent at a taxi rank in the early hours of 26 October 2024. As a result, it led to his resignation and a By-Election was called.
