BOOTLE'S oldest pub is reopening this Friday, 27 September 2024, under new ownership after being closed for refurbishment.

The Jawbone Tavern on Litherland Road originally opened in 1802 and was named after the whaling fleets based at Bootle Docks. The public house has survived 2 world wars and was once owned by a Championship winning Liverpool FC footballer, Jock McNab, and has served thousands of people in Bootle Village for well over 200 years now.

During World War II, the pub was run by Jock McNab - a midfielder for Liverpool F.C. in the title winning sides of 1922 & 1923. After his success on the pitch, Jock hung up his boots and retired to work in the pub for over 20 years. The pub was popular back then with Liverpool F.C. and Everton F.C. players who would come in to see Jock. Including legendary Everton forward Dixie Dean.

A spokesperson for the new owners, Nicola Halton, said:- “We are delighted to be reopening this historic pub this Friday after refurbishment work and look forward to continuing to create a social hub for the community. The pub has been refurbished both inside and out. From updating the toilets and new ultra HD big screens to fitting Chesterfield style deep leather seating. Keeping with the heritage and traditional cosy look throughout the pub. We also have some new beers on tap and can't wait to see what the local community think of the new look.We would also like to wish Harry Sandle, the former landlord, all the best on his well deserved retirement.”

The Jawbone will be open 7 days a week from 12pm and will provide live entertainment on weekends and will show all live sporting events on its screens.

Nicola continues:- “We will be serving food 7 days a week including roast dinners on a sunday. We are also pleased to say all the current staff have been retained.”

The Pub will reopen from midday on Friday, 27 September 2024, at Jawbone Tavern , 12 Litherland Rd, Bootle L20 3BZ.
