A missing 14 year old swimmer hasn't been found
THE family of 14 year old Daniel Halliday have issued a statement via Merseyside Police following his disappearance.
On Sunday, 30 June 2024, he went swimming with friends near the Port of Liverpool Radar Tower, on Crosby Beach at around 7 pm. It is reported that the 14 year old got into difficulties as the current was too strong for him and his friends who tried to save him. Shortly after emergency services received a report of a concern for safety. A search was then carried out by HM Coastguard, helicopter, lifeboat, police, and the North West Ambulance Service. Sadly, Daniel has not been located. His family is being supported by specially trained Merseyside Police Officers and in a statement have asked for privacy at this difficult time. In a statement, they said:- "Our worst fear is that this tragic accident has taken our lovely boy from us. Daniel was jumping waves with his big brother who tried to save him but the current was too strong. Daniel is a loving son, brother, cousin, nephew and grandson. The family are all devastated, and we hope that we will be allowed our privacy at this time. Thank you." Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. If you are visiting the Merseyside Coast, or any location with water, please remember that swimming in open water is dangerous. Always follow safety instructions on signs and ask local people for advice. Sadly, on our Coastline the danger is especially high, yet the dangers are often overlooked or underestimated by locals and tourists. Sefton Council issued a safety advisory on its website following several similar incidents. Published earlier this year the warning says:- "Crosby beach is not a bathing beach and is permanently red flagged. All visitors are asked to read safety signage at beach entrances and look for the flags. Also present at Crosby beach are areas of deep mud which are constantly shifting, there is a quick flowing tide that can be dangerous."
