THE WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, in Lancashire, located between Southport and Preston, are looking to expand its family with a range of volunteering roles in its beautiful wetland environment.

The popular centre has a range of volunteer roles available, from helping to keep the grounds and reserves in tip-top condition, to welcoming visitors as they come into the Centre.

For those interested in finding out more, Martin Mere will be hosting a volunteering week at the centre from:- Saturday, 11 March 2023 to Friday, 17 March 2023. Anyone can come along to the drop-in sessions from:- 2pm to 4pm, to speak to the team about the variety of volunteering roles available.

The roles include these roles:-

● Grounds and Gardening Volunteer.

● Guide in the Hide.

● Reserve Volunteer.

● Term Time Toddler Activities.

● Visitor Experience.

● Canoe Safari Assistant.

● Craft Room Assistant.

Centre Manager at Martin Mere, Nick Brookes, said:- "Volunteers are at the heart of the WWT charity; without our volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do. We are always searching for new people to join our team of friendly volunteers across areas such as gardening, canoeing, welcoming visitors and helping out with family activities. You don't need expert knowledge to volunteer with us, just a keen interest in people and wildlife and a positive can-do attitude."

Pat Bramley, a volunteer at Martin Mere, said- "I have been visiting Martin Mere since the late 1970's, so when I retired I thought I would like to give something back and become more involved. Volunteering with visitor services, I enjoy working with the public and having the benefit of knowledgeable staff and colleagues, not to mention the endless fascination of the avian occupants and the otters."

In return for volunteering, volunteers will receive free entry to all WWT Wetland Centres, a 25% discount in the cafe and shop, and free social events and training throughout the year. Volunteers will also be working in a fantastic wildlife-filled environment with wetland creatures such as adorable otters, fabulous flamingos, and friendly nenes.
