New boss to help improve and modernise historic Allerton TrainCare Centre in Merseyside
NORTHERN is looking for someone to manage its TrainCare Centre, at Allerton, on Merseyside.
The new TrainCare Centre Manager will be in overall charge of the 12.5 acre site, and be responsible for the depot leadership team, and its 150 strong workforce. The train operator is looking for someone with a background in production leadership, ideally from a rail or heavy industrial environment. The centre is currently undergoing a programme of improvement and modernisation to transform the site into an exemplar of train maintenance. Iain Burnett, Director of Fleet, Northern, said:- “We’re looking for a strong, inspiring and collaborative leader with the confidence and credibility to help steer the vision we have for Allerton. The successful candidate will also focus on ensuring strict safety standards are met and will lead the local charge in transforming engineering.” The new manager will be required to hold a certificate from The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH). Allerton is 1 of 5 TrainCare Centres managed by Northern, the others being:- Neville Hill in West Yorkshire, Newton Heath in Manchester, Hull Botanic Gardens in East Yorkshire and Heaton in Tyne and Wear. At Allerton, they are responsible for maintaining around a quarter of Northern’s fleet of 360 trains, being the base for their Electric fleet of:- Class 319, Class 323, Class 331 and Class 769 trains. Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
