The body Shop to appoint administrators
THE cosmetic retailer The Body Shop has announced it will be appointing administrators after poor performance over Christmas and January.
The firm was purchased in November 2023 by a private equity firm, Aurelius for £207m, including an earn-out of £90m. The firm had hoped to turn around the business that is known for its skincare, make-up, haircare, and body products, that are inspired by nature and ethically. The iconic British brand, which pioneered cruelty-free cosmetic products was founded in 1976 by Anita Roddick in Brighton. It grew into a well-known high street name. In 2017 a Brazilian cosmetics and beauty brand Natura & Company took over in 2017, after buying it for close to £900 million. The Body Shop currently employs around 7,000 staff, and 900 stores in 20 different countries. It also has around 1,600 franchised shops around the world. Currently, the firm has just 1 store on Merseyside, located on South John Street, in Liverpool ONE. The move to appoint administrators is likely to result in store closures and the loss of yet another iconic British brand. Did you know? In 2016 the Southport store that was located on Chapel Lane was been closed due to the relevant department plans of the owners of Marble Place.
