Kellogg's has proposed the closure of their Manchester manufacturing site

THE breakfast food manufacturer Kellogg's has announced that they propose to close their iconic Manchester site, based in Trafford Park. Usdaw represents production workers at the plant and will now enter into consultation talks over the proposed 2026 closure, which could impact 360 directly employed staff.

Usdaw Area Organiser, Mick Murray says:- "This is devastating news for the staff to hear that the Kellogg’s manufacturing site in Manchester's Trafford Park is being considered for closure. This iconic site opened in 1938 and was the 1st manufacturing base for Kellogg's in Britain. Usdaw will now enter into meaningful consultation talks with the company, where we will interrogate their business case and seek the best possible outcome for staff impacted by the proposed closure. We are providing our members with the support, advice, and representation at this difficult time."

In a statement to the media, Kellogg's has said that the company has said it can't see:- "a long-term future" for the 90-year-old site in Greater Manchester's Trafford Park area, which employs 360 jobs, and produces a million boxes of cereal each day. This move is due to the lack of room to enable upgrades in the future at the site, which means the factory could now be closed by 2026.

We are told that some of the 360 workers at the site might also be from the Liverpool City Region, not just the Greater Manchester area, but Kellogg's has said the move will also not affect the 520 jobs at the company's MediaCity Office, located in Salford. The firm has also confirmed that its St Helens Distribution Centre will not be affected by the closure, nor will its factory in Wrexham.
