UK Air Traffic Control has been affected by a technical fault that has resulted in a:- "network wide failure."

NATS, the national air traffic controllers, said in a statement:- "We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety. Engineers are working to find and the fix the fault. We apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."

This issue has led to a "flow restriction" being put in place. As a result, passengers are being told to expect delays.

Loganair posted on X, formerly known as Twitter:- "There has been a network-wide failure of UK air traffic control computer systems this morning.  Although we are hopeful of being able to operate most intra-Scotland flights on the basis of local coordination and with a minimum of disruption, North South and international flights may be subject to delays.   If you are flying with us today, please check our website for the latest information about your flight before setting off for the airport."

Liverpool Airport also said:- "There is currently a UK-wide air traffic control flight planning system failure, which engineers are working to remedy. Whilst aircraft will be loaded on time, some flights may be subject to a delay. This is out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport's control, but we will keep you updated as things change. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

There is no risk to life from this issue and backup systems are being used, but it can only handle a lower volume of flights for safety reasons.
