MAGHULL station was yesterday overwhelmingly named as the best in the North West as part of the World Cup of Stations competition.
The station beat Manchester Victoria, Carlisle and Oxenholme in the regional stage of the competition, securing a whopping 73% of the vote organised by the Rail Delivery group.
In 2024, the competition is focused on celebrating the variety of businesses found in train stations, from delis to doughnut shops, hotels to health spas, barbers to bakers, florists to farm shops and the benefits they bring to people across the UK and local economies.
Maghull has been chosen to take part in the contest due to its flourishing café ‘The Coffee Carriage’. Set up by 2 local entrepreneurs in 2023, the café provides a range of delicious hot drinks, artisan bakes and a fantastic atmosphere which the local community have taken to their hearts, quickly transforming the station into a vital meeting place and hub.
The station now needs your support today as it battles It out in a further public vote, this time against the best stations from Scotland, Wales and a category nominated by community rail organisations in a semi-final round.
Votes cast in each round do not carry forward to the next, meaning that Maghull will need your votes again today and tomorrow in the National final, should it win its semifinal round today.
Suzanne Grant, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Merseyrail said:- “We are delighted that our station here at Maghull has been voted the best in the North West. Our team are very much part of the community and so it’s not surprising to see the station do so well in the competition. We want to see the station compete in tomorrow’s national final and for that to happen we need everyone who voted for us in yesterday’s North West round, to vote for us again today. With your help, our team at Maghull station and The Coffee Carriage can get the recognition they deserve”.
Rory McLellan, Co-owner of Coffee Carriage said:- “The café was full yesterday with people from across the community popping in to show their support, it’s fantastic that we have helped make Maghull the best station in the North West. I really hope that people will continue to vote for us today and help propel us to the final. It will be great for Maghull, our community and our station to be voted the best in the UK ”.
Last year over 72,000 votes were cast across 12 heats which was won by Wemyss Bay in Scotland.
Merseyrail and the team at the Coffee Carriage are asking for your support to ensure the station wins the top prize.
