RFA seafarers protest at Labour conference

SEAFARERS working for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary will take their campaign against low pay to Labour Party conference this Sunday, 22 September 2024, outside the venue ACC Liverpool from 3.00pm onwards.

The protest will take place ahead of 3 days strike action planned from midnight Monday next week in the long running dispute over pay which has also involved RFA officers’ union Nautilus.

RMT members have taken 5 stoppages since the dispute began under the previous Tory government.

Despite the fact that the union has had cordial meetings with the Ministry of Defence no improved offer has been forthcoming.

All RFA personnel have been directed to abstain from duties on strike days while ensuring essential safety protocols, including maintaining moorings and gangways, are strictly observed.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said that the relatively moderate demands of RFA members on pay must be heard. He said:- “It is clear that these workers need to be given a pay rise that recognises the important and often hazardous work they do all over the world. We will continue to campaign for a decent pay rise so we can bring this dispute to a conclusion".
