LGA responds to Age UK report
RESPONDING to Age UK analysis which found that 28,655 older people died waiting for social care in:- 2022 / 2023, Cllr David Fothergill, Social Care Spokesperson for the LGA said:- “These tragic figures from Age UK show in the most devastating terms the human impact of the level of pressures facing our social care system. Councils are struggling with significant waiting lists for people to be assessed and to meet the full range of their statutory duties. Care worker pay urgently needs an uplift to help fill the tens of thousands of vacancies across the country. The LGA is calling for immediate investment in adult social care to tackle the urgent issues affecting services, alongside a long-term care workforce plan.”
This news comes after the charity Age UK reported older people are at risk of being forced into residential care due to massive delays in making adaptations to homes.
