JOIN WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre as it opens its doors to thousands of visitors for its annual North West Bird Watching Festival.

On Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 October 2023, the centre will be celebrating the arrival of thousands of migratory birds, and they’ve got a jam-packed weekend planned with early openings, late closing, guest speakers, exhibitors, and activities.

Louise Clewley, Reserve Manager at WWT Martin Mere, said:- “This time of year is a fantastic time for the reserve. We are joined by thousands of migratory birds as they spend the winter here. At the festival, you’ll see thousands of pink-footed geese. The birdwatching festival is a celebration of their arrival and a chance for bird enthusiasts to get together for all things nature-related. We’ll have insight from a range of well-known names in the birdwatching community and the chance to see more behind-the-scenes of what our reserve team gets up to.”

Guest speakers at the festival include Wildlife Photographer Ben Osborne, who has worked with the likes of Sir David Attenborough, and WWT and RSPB Ambassador, Lucy Lapwing, alongside other wildlife experts.

Visitors will also get the chance to speak with a wide range of exhibitors, selling everything from books and artwork to wildlife holidays. Get expert advice from exhibitors like Viking Optics, or take part in photography sessions and seminars from FUJIFILM UK.

There are also plenty of activities to keep visitors busy and connected to nature, including guided walks, guided boat tours, and bird ringing demonstrations.

General admission prices apply for the North West Bird Watching Festival, with members entering for free. For a complete list of exhibitors and guest speakers, visit the WWT Martin Mere website.
