CHARITY urges people to come together to raise vital funds to support people affected by cancer across the UKThis year the official event date is Friday, 29 September 2023, but a Coffee Morning can be held at any time.

Now in its 33rd year, Coffee Morning traditionally sees hundreds of thousands of people across the country tuck into cakes and enjoy a cuppa with colleagues, friends, neighbours and strangers. And this year will be no different – and the charity is urging people in Merseyside to get involved in Coffee Morning whenever and wherever they would like!

A cancer diagnosis can turn someone’s life upside down in a moment, and people affected by cancer in communities across the North West need Macmillan’s support now more than ever before.

Last year Macmillan raised £1,478,850 from Coffee Morning, from 5,829 donations across the North West, including £237,056 raised in Merseyside, to help provide essential support for people living with cancer.

Rob Turner, Macmillan’s Relationship Fundraising Area Manager for Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside and Isle of Man, explains:- “Every penny raised through Coffee Mornings across the UK helps Macmillan continue to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer live life as fully as they can, whether that’s help with physical concerns, how they feel, money worries, or something different altogether. Macmillan relies almost entirely on public donations to make a difference. That is why it has never been more important for people to come together to host a Coffee Morning to ensure Macmillan can continue to deliver the services that so many people affected by cancer rely on. So, whether you raise a little or a lot, we can still make a difference together. Whatever your reason, let’s do Coffee Morning together!”

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:-

· Sign up to host your own Coffee Morning (and apply for a free fundraising pack!) at or by searching Coffee Morning | Macmillan Cancer Support Macmillan Coffee Morning.

· Supporters are encouraged to hold their Coffee Morning whenever and wherever suits them. Whether it’s at home, in the office kitchen, in the community hall, at school, or on the street for your neighbours to enjoy!

· Macmillan Cancer Support is partnering with M&S as the joint headline sponsor of Coffee Morning with proceeds of the Macmillan Colin the Caterpillar™ cakes and selected M&S products, donated to the leading cancer charity.

· M&S Cafés are also donating 5p from every coffee and slice of cake enjoyed through September 2023, as well as the addition this year of a special Afternoon Tea.

· Macmillan has also partnered with Costa Coffee as joint headline partner to create some sweet treats for people and raise money for a great cause. Up and down the country, customers will be able purchase three treats created in collaboration with Macmillan – the Macmillan Chocolate Muffin, the Macmillan Carrot and Walnut Cake, and the Macmillan Iced Shortcake Biscuit. And with each purchase of these Macmillan products, Costa Coffee will donate 20p to Macmillan Cancer Support.

How the money raised can be used to support people living with cancer across the UK:-

· £71 could help run the Macmillan Online Community forum for over 3 hours. Typically, that would give nearly 198 people affected by cancer both emotional and practical support by providing a safe environment to share their experiences and emotions.

· £100 could pay for a person affected by cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.

· £350 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together. This can relieve financial pressure on a family that has been affected by cancer.

· £646 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

· £1202 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
