AS part of a wider program of works Cadent engineers are due to start major upgrade work to a major gas main in Southport.

The work will require temporary traffic light controlling measures, including temporary road closures on the A565 Waterloo Road, between:- Hillside Station and the Greenback Road junction (next to the Round House) between:- 10 February to 2 March 2024.

These traffic management control measures will allow on-site Cadent engineers to upgrade the older metallic gas pipes, which have reached the natural end of their working lives with plastic pips.

The work might also mean a temporary loss of supply to some properties within the area.

A representative from Cadent said:- "We know that this is a major road into the Town Center from Liverpool, and also next to an access road to a school along with gold clubs, so we will be working as fast as possible, to minimize disruption. We thank everybody for their patience and understanding."

These works are part of Cadent's national gas mains replacement program, which is currently taking place in North West England. The gas mains replacement works will also see other roads in and around Southport being affected by diversions and other traffic management control measures being used throughout 2024. To keep up-to-date you can use the One.Network website.

During the work, if you smell gas, please do not assume it is related to these works. It may not be, and it might need to be checked. Act immediately and call the national gas emergency service phone number, day or night, on:- 0800111999. All calls are recorded and may be monitored.
