A Class 777 Metro at Formby Station on the Merseyrail Network - Northern Line
AFTER years of development, delays and setbacks, the new fleet of £500m fleet of brand new British Rain Class 777 trains, for the Liverpool City Region’s Merseyrail network, is finally moving with paying passengers!

The  Class 777 have been running today with the very first paying passengers on the Kirkby Line of the publicly owned network.

These trains will start to replace the 40-year-old rolling stock that has been operating on the network.

These special trains are third rail electric powered and can also be battery operated to extend range and help with reliability. They are also not only groundbreaking in their design, but are fully customized for the network. Interestingly, it is not the first time the network has led the way with initiative rolling stock.

We are told Ormskirk lines will be the next section to operate the Class 777, and that will be followed by the Wirral lines later in the year.
 ‍
Annoyingly, the network has still got issues on the Northern Line, that is delaying the introduction for paying passengers, as ‌Southport Station is proving to be a problem for the new units, But it is hoped that the work needed to fix the issues on the Station will be finished by the end of 2023, so we should see them taking over day to day running on the Network's Northern Line by the end of the year.

As the issues at Southport are being fixed, might spot these 21st Century trains being tested on the Northern Merseyrail line more and more!
