Phishing emails on the rise - so keep your eyes out and please do report fake emails
WE are again seeing a resurgence in phishing scams and Russian cyber attacks being reported. Sadly, this is now the 'norm' online and we have to keep an eye out for them daily.
The latest emails we are seeing reported to us include lots of them pretending to be from PayPal. This email is clearly fake, as in this case the header clearly says the email was sent from:- "tersale @ windstream .net" and not PayPal. Unfortunately, the email 'from' addresses are very easy to fake for anyone with a little programming knowledge. It is a common tactic of criminal gangs to fake the:- 'from' address to make scam emails seem legitimate. So always check as it isn't always the case that it is so obvious. Use the view source function and see if the link in the code is from PayPal. Plus also hover over links, but do not click on them. Do they really take you to PayPal if licked on? Find out more about how to recognize and report:- emails, texts, websites, adverts, or phone calls at:- NCSC.Gov.UK. var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-5165542-3']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'https://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); |
