DEMENTIA Action Week takes place from:- 19 May to 26 May 2025. It's an awareness raising campaign where Alzheimer's Society works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to act on dementia.

This year we are focusing on diagnosis and educating audiences on the symptoms of dementia.

In Southport, Alzheimer’s Society has organized a couple of events encouraging people to find out more about this condition, plus help and support for families affected by it.

The 1st event is a Dementia Wellbeing Hub taking place at the Atkinson, in Southport, on:- Monday, 19 May 2025, from:- 10 am to 4 pm. This is a 1 stop shop for all things to do with dementia. Whether you are worried about your memory, want to know how to reduce your risk, or if you have dementia and need information and support. Not only will Alzheimer’s Society staff be there with lots of information and advice, we have also teamed up with:- Sefton Council, Sefton Carers’ Centre, and Southport Memory Clinic, so that staff from these organisations will be there to help you too. So, if you have a blue badge query, want information about dementia medication or you want to find out about support for carers, this dementia wellbeing hub is the place to come. No need to book, just pop in any time during the day. Click here for the poster.

The 2nd event is a pop-up memory café, taking place at the:- Banqueting Suite (the Settle Inn) within the:- Botanic Gardens, on:- Tuesday, 20 May 2025. It's for people living with dementia and their families to meet others in a relaxed setting to receive vital peer support. The Alzheimer's Staff will be there to welcome you and to offer support and information. Again, no need to book, just come along any time between:- 10 am and 2 pm.  Click here for the poster.

Barry Lyon, Local Service Manager said:- "We know there are many people living in our area who may be worried about their memory and don’t know what to do. We also know that there are those living with dementia who may not be aware of local services and support. Come along to one of our events and find out what's available. Many people tell us that they wish they had been in touch sooner so please do come and find out more. There are lots of things you can do to reduce your risk of dementia so it's important that as many people as possible are aware of the risk factors and the symptoms. We want Sefton to be one of the best places for people to get this vital information and support."
