Kevin Ruane MBE earned top place in:- 'Best Home Cry' section at the:- 'British Town Crier Championships' last weekend.
The category gives Town Criers an opportunity to promote their:- Town, City or Borough to the nation.
Southport's Town Crier is now preparing his loudest voice to proclaim the 2026 Southport Air Show officially open, at:- 10am this Saturday and Sunday (29 August and 30 August 2026).
The stunning seaside event will see spectators enjoy an array of awe inspiring aircraft including the RAF Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the RAF Typhoon (Sunday only), the AeroSuperbatics Wingwalkers, and more.
Just before the show Kevin Ruane MBE told Andrew Brown, from Stand up For Southport:- “I'm excited to be back at Southport Air Show this weekend! I loved being there last year; I've been to the Southport Air Show many times. It's a fantastic event. I really enjoy it. There are some wonderful aircraft on display but my personal favourite is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It sits with me. This year it will feature the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Dakota. When you hear those Rolls Royce Merlin engines roaring above Southport Beach, it is just amazing. I did a presentation once about the last ever RAF Lancaster to crash during World War II, for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight team, in Lincoln. They kindly gave me a look inside the Dakota, so I'm looking forward to seeing it flying at Southport Air Show this weekend. There are so many great things to enjoy at the air show, both in the sky and on the ground. There is something for everyone there. It's brilliant to see the RAF Red Arrows returning this year too, they are something else. I remember 1st watching the Red Arrows when I was a kind and being absolutely mesmerised, and still get that same sense of amazement when I watch their displays now. I love being Southport's Town Crier and it's great to see just how many people enjoy seeing me out and about whilst doing this role. Getting national recognition amongst my peers for promoting our brilliant home region last week is just the icing on the cake and makes it all worthwhile. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Southport Air Show this weekend."
