HUNDREDS of children across Merseyside enjoyed a memorable day by the seaside, thanks to the support of Tesco colleagues and customers.

10 Tesco stores across Merseyside have come together to support this year’s Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing to Southport, helping to provide goodie bags packed with sweets, crisps and sweet cones for 259 children. Snacks and refreshments were also donated to the volunteer taxi drivers who generously gave up their time to make the day possible.

Organised by Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing Fund, the charity outing treats children in care and those in need to a special day out each year, featuring rides in a colourful procession of decorated taxis and opportunities to enjoy entertainment, refreshments, fairground rides, and seaside attractions. The convoy is traditionally waved off by distinguished guests, including the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Peter Oliver O B E, Lord Mayor Cllr William Shortall of Liverpool, and Chief Inspector Louis Hooley from Merseyside Police.

The charity was founded in 1984 and relies entirely on fundraising and community support to provide free outings, seasonal events and special treats for young people. It is estimated to have helped more than 10,000 children since its creation.

Bernie Buxton MBE, Founder of the Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing Fund, said:- “This year marks the 42nd outing for our charity, and we're proud to continue giving children in care and young people in need a memorable day out. As a charity that relies entirely on fundraising and community support, Tesco's continued support means a great deal to us. A huge thank you to Tesco for helping us create happy memories that last a lifetime for the children.”

This is the 4th year that Tesco stores across Merseyside have supported the Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing Fund and this worthwhile event in the local community.

Donna Blakemore, Community Champion at Tesco Deysbrook Barracks Superstore, said:- “We are really delighted to have supported this year’s Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children in Care Outing to Southport, which brings our communities together through compassion and care. It’s wonderful to see everyone take pleasure in celebrating kindness and enjoying unforgettable moments. We’re proud to play a part in helping to make a positive difference to young people’s lives across Merseyside.”
