THE award-winning Volare restaurant on Lord Street in Southport has just landed its BIGGEST ever tuna!
This beautiful yellow fin tuna weighs a massive 116 kg / 18 stone 4lbs. It’s approximately 6ft 8 inches in length.
It’s on their menu from lunchtime today, 3 August 2026.
Diners can enjoy tuna carpaccio today and tomorrow with black pepper and a citrus dressing.
You can also enjoy it grilled with a sauce of onions and balsamic vinegar.
The bones will go towards making some beautiful stock for fish soup. The team at Volare are busy making portions of this tuna; it should make around 250.
It is on the specials menu from today onwards - while stocks last.
Owner Onofrio Maimone said:- "This tuna was line-caught in Cornwall on Friday. I was at the Southport FC v Wigan Athletic FC game on Friday when I got a call from Fleetwood Fish Market to say the fish was available. They know we’re always on the lookout for fish which is really special to serve here at Volare. In September we secured a 24 stone halibut which was extremely popular! It sold out very quickly."
He continued:- "Volare is famous for our fresh fish and seafood and our customers always look out for what’s on our specials board. This is the biggest ever tuna we have ever served at Volare. Yellow fin tuna is a wonderful fish, so full of flavour, and we know our customers are going to love it."
Volare is 1 of Southport’s most established restaurants, famous for its home-cooked Italian dishes – and the high quality of its seafood. They operate in partnership with Southport Football Club, where they provide hospitality on matchdays.
Volare was opened in 2007 by Onofrio Maimone and his wife Cinzia Lopalco, with son Jason Maimone operating as Head Chef.
Volare is situated 613-619 Lord Street in the ‘Northern Quarter’ of Southport town centre.
