Travellers Warned:- Don’t Bring Banned Foods Back from the EU

IF you’re returning home from a half-term break in the EU, UK Customs is reminding travellers to take extra care when it comes to bringing food back into Great Britain.

Strict rules are in place to protect UK farms and livestock from serious diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease and African Swine Fever — both of which could devastate British agriculture.

That means certain foods are strictly banned from being brought into the country. Items such as cheese, milk, cured meats, and even homemade sandwiches can be seized at the border. Travellers caught carrying prohibited goods may face fines of up to £5,000.

Before travelling, it’s worth checking the latest guidance on the government website.

If you’re unsure about what’s allowed, the safest option is to declare everything when you arrive. Any undeclared or banned items will be confiscated and destroyed.

A quick check before you travel could save you a fine — and help protect the UK’s farmers and countryside.
