THE latest Citizens 4 Good event, held at Southport Market, brought together community members to celebrate some of Sefton’s most inspiring unsung heroes.

Organised by Sefton 4 Good and Sefton CVS, in partnership with the Mayor of Sefton’s Office, the evening shone a spotlight on the small, quiet acts of kindness and dedication that make Sefton such a special place to live.

The celebration served as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, connection, and community spirit. Councillor June Burns, Mayor of Sefton, opened the event with a warm address to attendees, setting the tone for an uplifting evening of recognition and gratitude.

Among those recognised were volunteers who work tirelessly to improve local green spaces, individuals who keep youth services running in Southport, and 2 friends who took on an incredible 150-mile walk to raise funds for men’s mental health charity Sean’s Place.

Meet Sefton’s Community Stars:-

Simon Moorhouse – A dedicated volunteer whose pride and commitment to Victoria Park make him a valued member of the community.

Sue Darroch – A longstanding and deeply valued volunteer at the Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association, supporting countless local activities and residents.

NCT Southport, Formby and Ormskirk (Hazel, Kate & Denise) – 3 dedicated volunteers who support new parents by leading friendly “Walks and Talks” across Southport and Ormskirk.

David Eley – A tireless volunteer at Hesketh Park, often starting early and working in all weathers to clear foliage, maintain pathways, plant flowers, and keep the park welcoming for everyone.

David Jamieson – A beloved local hero, celebrated for his charitable work and his pivotal role in shaping and supporting The Merseybeat Scene across Sefton.

Matthew Draper – A student at Arden College who volunteers at the Salvation Army Café, bringing warmth and joy to socially isolated people.

Youth Community Partnership (Danny, Pat & Patrice) – Through their dedication and hard work, they’ve sustained vital youth provision in Southport at a time when so many similar services have disappeared.

Chris McLean & Craig Morris – 2 friends who walked 150 miles from Scarborough to Liverpool in just 5 days, raising funds and awareness for Sean’s Place, a Bootle-based men’s mental health charity.

Sarah Corner – A lifelong Bootle resident who has devoted her career in health and social care to supporting others across Sefton.

Patricia & Denis Blundell – Volunteers at Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association, who have transformed their local woodland into a welcoming space for everyone.

Margy Allen – The heart and soul of the Emmaus Superstore in Litherland, where for over a decade she has dedicated herself to helping people in need.

Dave Jones – Groundsman at Parkhaven Trust, who has given an incredible 50 years of service maintaining and nurturing the Parkhaven Estate.

Anna O’Brien-Furlong – A Brighter Living Partnership service user who transformed her life after completing the Think Differently, Cope Differently course — and now volunteers to help others do the same.
