New NHS partnership with leading national mental health app

LOCAL NHS Trust, CWP has partnered with Hub of Hope, the UK’s largest and most comprehensive directory of mental health services.

The collaboration will see Hub of Hope become Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s (CWP) official community signposting partner, helping people to find the right mental health support, at the right time.

The partnership coincided with Suicide Prevention Day, which takes place every year in September.

Jake Mills, CEO and Founder of Chasing the Stigma, said:- “When you or someone you care about is struggling, knowing where to turn can feel impossible. That’s why we created the Hub of Hope, because finding support shouldn’t be hard. This partnership with CWP means more people can find real, local help when they need it most. It’s about showing people they’re not alone. There’s help out there. There’s always hope.”

During his own recovery from a battle with depression and suicide attempt in 2013, at the age of 24, Jake went public with his story. As he did, he was flooded with messages from people who were also struggling and who, like himself, found they didn’t know where to turn for help.

From this, Hub of Hope was born and is now the UK’s largest and most comprehensive directory of community mental health services, for the 300,000+ people who use it each year.

Dr Mahesh Odiyoor, CWP Strategic Clinical Director for Specialist Community Mental Health Services, says:- “For most people with mental illness, the diagnosed problem isn’t all they need or want help with. People tell us that they want mental health services that go beyond symptoms and illnesses, which see the person and not the diagnosis. Working with partners like Hub of Hope and the thousands of third sector organisations registered with them, helps us to ensure people have access to a wide range of community support to meet their needs, wherever they are in their journey. We all know with any health condition; early intervention can make a world of difference and mental health is no different. If you are struggling, please reach out and find the right support for you.”

The Samaritans estimate that every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by suicide and that 1 in 4 people experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives.

If yours or a loved one’s mental or emotional state quickly gets worse or deteriorates, this can be called a ‘mental health crisis’. In this situation, it is important to get help quickly.

Please call NHS 111 and select the mental health option to talk to a mental health professional. They will be able to support you to get the help/advice you need. The service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For non-urgent mental health support, visit this website for access to Hub of Hope or download straight to your phone from the AppStore or PlayStore.
