Pakistan charges man over false information distribution in connection to Southport knife attack
WE have been told that authorities in Pakistan have charged Farhan Asif with cyber terrorism, in relation to disinformation thought to have fuelled the unrest in Southport and other parts of the country.
The article, published on the website Channel3Now, was widely quoted in viral posts on social media following the killing of 3 young girls in Southport.
The post on the website suggested the attacker was an asylum seeker who arrived in the UK by boat, and illegally suggested he was on an:- "MI6 watch list." The report is also said to have given a false name for the suspected attacker, following the tragedy on:- 29 July 2024.
The valance over the fatal stabbing attack also resulted in further distress for the people of Southport who are still trying to come to terms with what has happened.
According to BBC News reports today, Farhan Asif is alleged to have worked for Channel3Now, and authorities in Pakistan have charged him with cyber terrorism.
