Prenton Rugby Club, is offering a free sports coaching course to children this April
THE Prenton Rugby Club are hosting a free sports coaching course, on which adults will learn how to deliver sports coaching to children. In partnership with national charity Street Games and Wirral Council, the course is taking place on:- Friday, 5 April 2024. from:- 10am until 4.30pm, and the 12 participants receive a certificate at the end.
Ideal for anyone wanting to explore a career in sports coaching or education, or for someone wanting to add to their qualifications, the free course covers delivering a range of different sports activities, dealing with challenging behaviors, and inclusivity. Thanks to the national charity Street Games and Wirral Council's Wirral Together Fund, the exciting opportunity is available for free, at Prenton Rugby Club. The 1st half of the day will focus on multi-sports activation, where the participants will learn how to teach children various sports through different lessons. The second half of the day will then focus on working with children with additional needs, challenging behaviors, and how to maintain inclusivity. The free course aims to bridge the gap and empower more adults to be able to teach sports and help children learn at the same time; with sports participation down in the UK across the board. Participants will then have the opportunity to take this further and volunteer at the Prenton Rugby Club. Prenton's Craig Elkerton said:- "Sport England stats show that sports participation is down throughout the UK, with rugby in particular badly hit with a 67% decrease. At Prenton Rugby Club we’ve become a charity and rebranded ourselves as Prenton RUFC Community Hub, with one of our key aims being to increase sports participation. We've been hosting holiday camps for kids and have been working with Wallasey and Oldershaw to promote junior rugby in Wirral. This free course will give more adults the tools to be able to coach and teach young people in the area; we hope that it may even lead to some getting involved at our rugby club. It's a great opportunity for anyone who’s passionate about developing young people."
