DETECTIVES are continuing to appeal for information following a stabbing in Liverpool City centre last night:- Monday 9 December 2024.

At around 9.20pm, Merseyside police were called to Queens Square to reports of 2 teenagers having been stabbed inside the Q-Park.

A 16-year-old male was taken to hospital having sustained injuries to his shoulder and arm. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. An 18-year-old male sustained a slight injury and has been discharged.

Extensive enquiries are ongoing, including CCTV and witnesses.

Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said:- "Our initial enquiries indicate that this was a targeted attack by a group of up to 6 people and we know from experience that the consequences could have been even worse for either victim. At this stage, we are keeping an open mind as to the motive and would urge anyone with information to come forward. Queens Square is a busy location and I'd ask that anyone who was in vicinity of the Q-Park or passing by in a vehicle checks any dashcam, CCTV or other devices in case they hold valuable evidence. The offenders split into two groups and made off down the stairwell, 1 group exiting the car park onto St John’s Lane, the 2nd group exited the pedestrian exit onto Queen Square, crossing Whitechapel and ran down Victoria Street into the City. Knife crime causes devastation across our communities, and we work closely with partners to do all we can to make communities safer. Although knife crime is decreasing on Merseyside, each incident has the potential to cause serious harm, and we understand that there is work to be done, both in understanding the root causes of knife crime, and educating young people and their families on the risks people take in carrying weapons. If you have any information about people carrying a knife in your community, come forward to police or anonymously through Crimestoppers on:- 0800 555 111."
