STORM Austen has caused the opening night of the River of Light festival to be cancelled because of high winds.
 

A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council said:- "We are very sorry to have to cancel tonight, but safety is our main concern. Please keep an eye on our social channels for any further event updates over the weekend."
 

A 2nd Weather Warning is in place for Merseyside from:- midday on Saturday until:- 21:00 BST, on Sunday meaning a later start to the annual free event.

This year it features 13 artworks, and is planned to finish on:- 1 November 2026, running from:- 5 pm to 9 pm, once it starts.
