SPEAK To Me has announced early plans for what it hopes will become Liverpool’s 1st Disability Pride Festival, with an ambition to hold the event in July 2027.
The organisation is asking disabled people, volunteers, artists, performers, businesses, venues and community organisations to register their interest and help shape the festival from the beginning.
The 1st stage will be a planning roundtable where local people can share ideas, identify accessibility needs and discuss what they want the festival to represent. No final programme has been decided because Speak To Me wants disabled people’s voices and lived experiences to guide the plans.
Harry Georgiou, founder of Speak To Me, said:- “We want this to be the biggest and best it can be, but we need people’s help to make that possible. Disabled people’s voices must be heard and listened to. Together, we can challenge stigma, break down barriers and create something Liverpool can be proud of.”
Disability Pride celebrates disability identity, visibility, rights and community. It is distinct from LGBTQ+ Pride, while welcoming disabled people from every background and recognising that people can belong to both communities.
Anyone interested in helping, attending the roundtable, offering a venue, performing, volunteering or supporting the project can complete the expression-of-interest form here.
