LIVERPOOL Philharmonic throws open its doors for a free day of musical discovery on:- Sunday, 13 September 2026, featuring the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bill Ryder-Jones and BBC Radio Merseyside’s Ngunan Adamu
Liverpool Philharmonic is inviting audiences of all ages to discover something new at its Big Music Day Out, a day-long celebration of music taking place at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Vanessa Reed, Chief Executive, Liverpool Philharmonic said:- “I moved from New York to work at the Phil because I know how important this unique organisation is to Liverpool’s cultural life, and I love the fact that there’s always something happening here – from orchestral music and international artists to family concerts and gigs with local musicians who are shaping what comes next. I hope that our free Big Music Day Out will give anyone who's curious about what we do a chance to meet our brilliant staff and musicians and discover what's on offer for them. Whether you're visiting for the 1st time or coming back for more, the Phil is for everyone, and we want you to feel at home in our Hall."
With the doors open throughout the day, visitors can enjoy an eclectic programme of live music, from orchestral favourites and film music to a special performance with acclaimed Liverpool musician Bill Ryder-Jones.
The day gets underway at 12.30pm with a family concert performed by the full Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, bringing together familiar favourites, new sounds and a few surprises. Designed for audiences of all ages, it will be an opportunity to experience the full power of a symphony orchestra completely free, in a fun and informal setting. Throughout the day, the orchestra will perform favourites and music from the movies, alongside a special performance featuring Bill Ryder-Jones.
Over in the Music Room venue, some of the best artists from across the City are performing in a series of takeovers from local music partners. Mellowtone will be bringing gigs from the phenomenal Grace Elizabeth Harvey, Lydia Reece, DUBH, hosted by Plazzy Bag and DJed by Richie Vegas before exciting sets from LIMF Academy stars Faye Donna Francis, Astles, Bethane and Michael Aldag. Then The Jacaranda will be bringing it all to a close, with Courds, Future Child, Pevova and Temeraire lighting up the Music Room stage.
The day will be hosted by Ngunan Adamu, the much-loved BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and 1 of Liverpool’s most familiar voices, who will bring her characteristic warmth, energy and enthusiasm to the event.
The Big Music Day Out is designed to offer something for everyone – whether visitors are already passionate about classical music, keen to discover new artists, or simply looking for a fun day out in the City.
The Big Music Day Out reflects Liverpool Philharmonic’s ambition to make its home a place where everyone can discover, experience and enjoy music. With a programme spanning orchestral music, film scores, contemporary artists and family-friendly performances, audiences can drop in, stay for the day and discover something new.
