FIRE crews from both:- Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended a significant fire in sand dunes near to:- Albert Road, Formby, on:-Wednesday, 12 August 2026.  When Crews arrived, on scene, at:- 8 pm; with:- 6 fire engines in attendance; they found a gorse and marron grass fire had taken old on around:- 300 by 300 metres of, the nature reserve. 
 
The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service participation was  in attendance as part of mutual cross border support arrangements.
 
Crews used beaters and connected hose lines, running over considerable distance to enable water supplies to be establish the flames and cool down the area.  Help was also provided by MFRS off road vehicles to gain more access to fight the fire from the beach side of the incident.
 
By 10.15 pm, as you can see in the footage we shot, Firefighters continued to fight the fire in difficult conditions as the fire was being driven by wind and grew to:- 500 by 200 metres, with multiple seats of fire in thick gorse bush and dunes.
 
Firefighters also used the fire service's drone to gain situational awareness of the situation they faced from height. It also helped by checking for hot spots so that the fire would not reignite ...
 
This and the other measures helped to extinguish the sire safely.
