St Joseph’s Hospice Christmas Tree Collection Smashes Expectations with over 800 Trees Recycled

ST Joseph’s Hospice is celebrating the outstanding success of its 2025 Christmas Tree Collection, which surpassed all expectations, collecting and recycling an incredible 835 real Christmas trees and raising £15,000 in much-needed funds to support ongoing hospice care.

This year’s total was made possible thanks to the extraordinary efforts of volunteers, staff, and several generous partner organisations who came together over four intensive days to coordinate collections across multiple postcode areas in Liverpool. Despite the scale and complexity of the operation, hundreds of trees were successfully collected, processed, and sustainably recycled.

Mike Parr, Chief Executive at St Joseph’s Hospice, said:- “This was a huge logistical challenge, but 1 that truly demonstrated the power of collaboration and community spirit. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved. Not only have we raised vital funds for the hospice, but we’ve also ensured a positive environmental impact.”

A special thank you goes to Veolia, who provided exceptional support by generously donating staff time, specialist equipment, and access to recycling centres. Thanks to Veolia’s involvement, more than 10 tonnes of Christmas trees were processed.

St Joseph’s Hospice would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to WSP and Balfour Beatty, alongside the teams at Sutcliffe, NLBF, and Tilly Hire. Together, they drove vans, collected trees, and worked tirelessly throughout the collection period to ensure the success of the Christmas Tree recycling scheme.

The collected Christmas trees were chipped and transformed into mulch for gardens and parks, compost, animal bedding, and softer surfaces for walking trails. Some trees will also be reused whole to create fish habitats in ponds or support shoreline stabilisation projects—returning nutrients to the soil and supporting local ecosystems.

St Joseph’s Hospice extends its sincere thanks to everyone who registered a tree, volunteered their time, or supported the scheme. The success of this year’s Christmas Tree Collection will make a meaningful difference to patients and families relying on hospice care.

St Joseph’s Hospice plans to run the collection again in January 2027. To register your interest in volunteering or signing up for your tree collection, please visit this website.
