THE owner of Quicksilver Music in Southport is looking forward to this year’s annual Record Store Day celebrations this weekend! 

The iconic independent business will open early on the day; as will nearby Harp Coffee And Games to ensure shoppers can enjoy a coffee or something to eat while they are in the queue! 

Record Store Day is the 1 day of the year when almost 300 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture.

The event will take place this Saturday, 12 April 2025, with Quicksilver Music always a popular destination for music lovers. 

Quicksilver Music has been a popular fixture in Southport town centre since it opened on Market Street, opposite the side of Southport Market, in July 2009. 

Last year it moved into bigger premises on the corner of King Street and Market Street, 1 of the success stories of the ongoing regeneration of the Southport Market Quarter. 

Local independent businesses in the area, including the record shop, remain open as multi-million work takes place to improve the area’s public realm to make it even more attractive to shoppers and visitors. 

There is more to enjoy in the area too this Saturday, with the monthly Artisan and Gift Market taking place in the Extravaganza Room at Southport Market between 11am and 4pm.

All the Southport Market food traders and bar are also open for you to enjoy with lots to choose from.

Quicksilver Music owner Dave Thornley said:- “Not long to go until Record Store Day 2025 folks, and the deliveries are coming in thick and fast! Save the date - it’s this Saturday 12 April 2025. We are the only record shop in Southport selling some of the exclusive releases for the day. We will be opening from 8am, 2 people in at a time, please form an orderly queue along the King Street side of our shop. You know the rules by now - only 1 copy of each title per customer, no reserves etc etc. I’ll do my usual post on the Quicksilver Music social media pages the night before showing you what we’ve got in, prices, where everything is, so you have all the info you need for your plan of attack! This year we will be collaborating with the wonderful Harp Coffee And Games on King Street, which will be opening up early from 7am to serve you coffee and food while you are in the queue!”

The new-look Quicksilver Music shop opened its doors on Saturday, 6 April 2024 after a 6-week makeover. 

Customers travelled from around the region to be there as they scoured through shelves full of rare vinyl records and CDs from a variety of genres and eras. 

The shop is based at 1 Market Street, after moving from 4 days away along Market Street, a venue that became famous for the iconic Hunter S Thompson street art on the shutters. . 

The transformation of the former Karbon Kopy unit saw Dave Thornley move across thousands of his cherished vinyl records and other goods. 

It is another boost for the growing Southport Market Quarter area, which has seen an increase in footfall and new businesses since the £1.4million transformation of Southport Market into a new food, drink and events venue in 2021.
