Moneypenny research suggests Merseyrail trains could be the 10th best train company for commuters in the UK
WHILST many of us rely on public transport to get us to and from places; nobody relies on public transport more than work commuters, with almost half of the train journeys in the UK made by those traveling to and from work. However, according to Moneypenny, many workers don’t just rely on public transport to get them to where they need to be anymore but also need it to be a place where they can get a head start on their day’s work or sit back and relax after a long day in the office.
Understanding that many of their customers are busy commuters themselves, experts at Moneypenny have looked into 24 trainlines in the UK to discover which offers the best services for busy commuters. The research took into consideration several factors including things like:- whether they offer free WIFI, whether are plugs available, and do they offer quiet zones to work or relax in, scoring them out of 100. Moneypenny in a press release sent to us says that Great Anglia tops the chart, with a score of:- 80.2 out of 100. With trains running in the South of the UK and direct routes to London, the trainline offers WIFI free of charge with no data limit, along with USB ports and plug sockets for those looking to work through their commute. Additionally, the trainline also offers a quiet zone for commuters, which only 7 other lines offer. Moneypenny also found that Avanti West Coast fell closely behind in 2nd place, with a score of 79.1. This trainline is 1 of just 8 to offer food onboard, with busy commuters able to grab a bowl of porridge on their way to work. The trains also have plug sockets, free WIFI, and quiet zones. The trainline also boasts 1 of the best positive sentiments among customers, with 193 positive social posts being made about the company in the last 30 days. Whilst Scotrail came in at 3rd, with a score of 78.1, Moneypenny found that the line offers catering on limited services, however, those that do travel on a catered journey will receive a free hot drink, bottle of water, along with a flavored Scottish Shortbread! Some of the larger trainlines towards the bottom of the list include:- South Western Railway in 9th place. Despite the trainline "receiving no positive social media engagements in the past 30 days," according to Moneypenny. They found that this service is 1 of few to offer commuters a quiet zone to work in during their journey. Landing in 10th place was Merseyrail! The company was found to have 1 of the high scorers when it came to sentiment, with 123 positive social engagements in the last month however Moneypenny did say it lost points as the trainline does not offer catering or a quiet zone for commuters. But as it's a local service, it is not surprising! Some of the other well-known trainlines that failed to make Moneypenny's Top 10 include:- East Midlands Railway in 11th place with a score of 70.2, Thameslink in 22nd place with a score of 57.3 and Great Northern in last place (24th) with a score of just 54.7! The trainlines ranked are based on how good they are for commuters. To do this, 10 factors were collected and indexed to create a score out of 10. The higher the score, the better. For example, if the trainline had completely free WIFI they would receive a 10/10 score for that factor. The values were then added up to give each trainline a score out of 100, the trainlines were then ranked from high score to low score. All data is correct as of 24/11/2023. The ranking data shown is a compilation of multiple data sources and may not be representative of real life. All data is accurate about the sources provided. Not all Merseyrail Services offer plug sockets, free WIFI yet on the trains or stations. The old trains running on the Northern Line do not have them, but they are being replaced with the new trains that do have those services. It is good to see Merseytravel getting listed though, as it is an amazing service, but why is it listed along with National services? Do you know what other local/regional networks got listed in the top 10?
